Privacy Policy
The Thursday is a family of local newsletters (The WPB Thursday, The Orlando Thursday, The Delray Thursday, The Jupiter Thursday). This page lists what the sign-up and submission forms collect and why.
When you sign up
We store:
- Your email address and the city newsletter you chose, so we can send it.
- Optionally, your mobile number, only if you enter one and check the text-message box.
- For text opt-ins, a consent record: the exact wording shown next to the checkbox, the date and time you agreed, and the page you agreed on. We keep it as proof that you opted in.
- Optionally, after signing up: your zip code and the topics you picked (events, food, family, nightlife, outdoors, arts, home services, deals, local news), so we can tailor the letter.
- Where you came from: any campaign tags in the link you used (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign), the referring website, and the page you landed on. We use this to learn which channels work.
- A hashed form of your IP address and your browser's user agent. The IP address is combined with a secret value and scrambled with SHA-256; we do not store the raw address. We use this to limit spam and repeat sign-ups.
When you send us an event or tip
We store what you type in the form (city, type, title, details, date and place, link, your name if given, and your email), whether you said it is your own business, and the hashed IP address described above. The team reads submissions weekly and may email you about yours. Submitting does not guarantee that anything is published.
How we use it
To send the newsletter you asked for, to keep a record of text consent, to review and follow up on submissions, to prevent abuse, and to report aggregate numbers (for example how many readers a city has, by zip code or interest) to local advertisers and partners. Those reports do not include individual email addresses or phone numbers.
Text messages
We only text you if you checked the box. We do not share or sell mobile numbers or text-consent information to third parties for their marketing. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Message and data rates may apply. Consent is not a condition of signing up for the email newsletter.
Where it lives
Data is stored in a database hosted by Cloudflare. We may later move email delivery to a newsletter service (such as beehiiv), in which case your email address would be shared with that provider so it can deliver the newsletter. This page will be updated first.
Your choices
Unsubscribe from any email, reply STOP to any text, or email us to ask to see or delete your data. TODO: add contact address and response times after legal review.
